What did I get at TCAF, you ask????
Actually I was on a pretty tight budget so I really tried hard to only get things that were close to my heart.
I made out like a bandit at the Conundrum table, getting a couple of books signed by both Philippe Girard and Michel Rabagliati.
I must have said the right thing to Philippe, because he gave me two beautiful drawings. One is Ruts & Gullies which I read a couple of years ago and loved the poetry of it. The other is his brand new book Obituary Man :-) I read it on the way home and really enjoyed it - it had the feel of a fun Twilight Zone episode.
Rabagliati also signed a couple of books for me and I love the little playful sketches. Of course I had brought my copy of The Song of Roland - which I absolutely loved and carried around with me for months (read my review) - andI also picked up his latest Paul Joins the Scouts. It was so good! Spot on in capturing a moment in time, not just an era, but also an age in a person’s childhood - and it doesn’t feel sappy or nostalgic at all. :-)
And - no surprise - I picked up a copy of Boulet’s Noirness and got it signed. (He signed my copy of Dungeon at C2E2). I kept running into him during TCAF and as usual I worry that I came off as a bit daffy, but honestly I really just happened to be there at the time. Anyway - I so hope his Notes gets translated and published over here in North America Land, and I can’t wait until he has the chance to start translating Ragnarok. :-)
Obviously TCAF was AMAZING. I meant to blog more, but I was too busy meeting some of my heroes, being dazzled by the legends, and hanging out with great friends and colleagues. :-)
